Quality spectacles to

suit all needs.

As an independent optical practice, we pride ourselves on the products we use.

We will take our time to discuss your requirements and recommend a solution to best suit your optical needs and lifestyle. To do this we will guide you through choosing frames, paying particular attention to the comfort and fit, so that you feel confident in your frame choice.

We will recommend lenses that are suitable for your prescription and that will enhance the cosmetic effect of your glasses, to ensure that you are completely satisfied with your prescription eyewear.

Caring for your spectacle lenses.

Today's modern prescription spectacle lenses are a miracle of technology. If you want to enjoy your spectacles for as long as possible it's important to take good care of them. It is also important to protect them from damage caused by environmental factors. Improper handling of technically advanced modern spectacle lenses can lead to scratches or damage being caused to the lenses.

Here at Thompsons Opticians we recommend using a spray to lift any dust or dirt away from the lens. This means it isn't scraped across the lens when cleaning. Using a Microfibre lens cloth is also very important. Dust and dirt cling to microfibre cloths. If the spectacle lenses are more heavily soiled, the first step is to wash them in lukewarm (not hot) water. The use of detergents and soap is no longer recommended.

Beware of high and low temperatures.

Spectacle lenses really don't like high temperatures. So in the summer you should avoid leaving your spectacles on the dashboard of the car or on a window sill or above a radiator in the winter. Stand back when you open the oven door and dishwasher. If you visit a sauna it's best not to take your spectacles in. Lenses can warp if they are exposed to very cold temperatures, so it's not a good idea to leave them in your car overnight in winter.

Thinner, flatter, lighter,
spectacle lenses.

Anti-reflective

enhancing coatings.

The innovation in lens coating technology now gives comfort to spectacle wearers like never before. Hydrophobic anti-reflective coating to reduce glare from lighting and car headlights and easy care. Honeycomb antiglare coatings reducing the reflected glare from flat surfaces giving clear, comfortable vision all day long. Coatings which block the blue light have been specially developed for people who spend a lot of their time indoors and are exposed to blue-violet light from LEDs as well as TV, computer or tablet screens. All have been designed to help reduce fatigue and improve visual performance.

Some prescriptions benefit from high index and ultra-high index lenses. These are thinner flatter lenses which reduce the appearance of your eyes looking too small (minus prescriptions) or too big (plus prescriptions). Lighter lenses and careful frame choice will reduce fatigue or frame slipping on the nose, making your spectacles comfortable for all-day wear. High index lenses also give you the benefit of an improved field of vision by reducing the curvature of the lens.
